Cilantro is thought to have been cultivated for nearly 5,000 years, dating back to ancient Egypt. Over time, it has traveled the globe and become a staple in cuisines from China and India to Mexico and Eastern Europe. It arrived in North America in the 17th century with English colonists. Even today, it remains widely used in soups, salsas, sauces, and as a garnish. In culturally vibrant countries like Canada, you can find cilantro in almost every restaurant.

While its delicate green leaves resemble carrot tops, few people realize that cilantro belongs to the carrot family—Apiaceae, a.k.a. Umbelliferae.

Interestingly, with its bold aroma and taste, cilantro sparks a distinctive love-hate relationship among foodies—making the “cilantro debate” a fun and never-ending topic.

Colleagues from FreshPoint Texas - OKC came together in a remarkable show of solidarity to support relief efforts in response to the devastating flooding that affected the Guadalupe River region in Texas Hill Country.

FreshPoint delivered multiple pallets of food items, ensuring a steady supply for those in need. Meanwhile, Buckhead | Newport contributed 500 pounds of poultry and beef, which Outback generously cooked and served, providing substantial nourishment to first responders and community members during this critical time.

Nick Rocha, the Region President for FreshPoint Texas – OKC, stated, “In times like these, it’s not just about business; it’s about standing together when it matters most.”

Cherries are proudly grown in Canada, with many coming from the beautiful orchards of British Columbia. Each summer, fresh Canadian cherries fill grocery store shelves, celebrated during Canadian Cherry Month and supported by the BC Cherry Association.

While there are many varieties, most cherries share a firm texture and sweet flavor that people love. Whether enjoyed fresh, baked into desserts, or added to summer dishes, cherries are a seasonal favorite.

Locally grown in our FreshPoint Canada location.
